Park Slope's Best Pancakes

Park Slope's Best Pancakes

Pancakes are a commitment, and in Park Slope, that commitment usually means waiting behind a stroller. I have eaten at all of these spots so you do not have to, which is a sacrifice I make because I lack better hobbies.

The range here runs from the hazelnut praline towers at Sunday In Brooklyn to a savory tuna pancake at Haenyeo that will make you question everything. I also drank a cocktail with breakfast at Bricolage.

You can judge me. This list is proof that a neighborhood known for its brownstones and bodega cats can still surprise you.

Go forth and order accordingly.

Great brunch drink options

I went to Cheryl's Global Soul for the pancakes. They were fluffy. The syrups were tasty, which matters because I have strong opinions about syrup. The service was friendly and knowledgeable. I asked a question about the menu and got a real answer. The place feels cozy and homey. I did not feel rushed. I also noticed the food delivery was fast, which is useful information for days I cannot face leaving my apartment. The brunch drink options are great. I had one. I would have another. I left full and slightly less cynical about my own cooking.

Cafe Luluc is a place I keep returning to, mostly because I lack imagination. The pancakes are solid. They are not the fluffiest in the neighborhood, but they are dependable. The coffee is fine. The service is efficient, which I appreciate because I do not enjoy small talk before noon. The room is simple. It feels like a diner that forgot to be loud. I ordered the pancakes and ate them without complaint. That is high praise from me. I will go back when I want a predictable breakfast and do not want to think too hard. That is most weekends.

Sunrise Espresso Bar has outdoor seating, and dogs are allowed. I sat outside with my coffee and watched a poodle judge me. The staff is family-owned and welcoming. They remembered my order on the second visit. That is a dangerous level of personal service. The chilaquiles are exceptional. I did not order pancakes here. I ordered the chilaquiles because the salsa verde is the best I have had in Park Slope. The pancakes are probably fine, but I cannot confirm. I was too busy eating the chilaquiles. The service is thoughtful. I felt like a regular, which is a lie I am willing to accept.

Miti Miti Modern Mexican is not a pancake place. I went anyway. The crispy fish taco is a standout. The vegetarian taco was surprisingly excellent, and I say that as a person who distrusts vegetables. The wings are crispy with unique sauces. I ate them with my hands. The food is fresh and I got seated immediately, which never happens to me. Alejandra took care of me. She was attentive. I did not order pancakes because they do not have them. I ordered tacos. I have no regrets. If you want pancakes, go elsewhere. If you want tacos, come here. I will be back for the wings.

The combination of pancakes and a cocktail is a choice I made. I do not regret it. The service was fine. The backyard is the real draw. I would come back just to sit outside and pretend I am on vacation. The pancakes are a bonus. I ate them all.

Haenyeo is a Korean-inspired place. I ordered the tuna seafood pancake. It was delicious. That is a pancake, technically. It is savory and full of tuna. I also got the free side kimchi, which was outstanding. I asked for more. They brought more. The flourless chocolate cake is excellent. I had it for dessert because I am an adult. The service is phenomenal and attentive. The menu is creative. I did not order a traditional pancake, but I do not care. The tuna pancake is better. I will come back for the kimchi alone. I might bring a friend, but only if they share.

I am still thinking about it. There are plenty of vegetarian options, which is good because I sometimes pretend to be one. The place is busy. I waited. It was fine. I would wait again for those pancakes. I have a problem. I accept it.

I will come back for the chai and maybe the pancakes. The pancakes are a side quest. I am okay with that.
